Outdoor Therapy near Shrewsbury

What is outdoor therapy?

Outdoor therapy is working with a counsellor/therapist outside rather than in the confines of a room.

If you’re experiencing anxious thoughts and overwhelming feelings, being valued and feeling accepted however you’re feeling can help bring a sense of calm. When you use your senses of sight, smell and hearing it can help you to feel more grounded and calmer too. Outdoor therapy helps you focus your senses on this present moment.

Counselling or therapy outside in Shropshire countryside is an opportunity to work with a qualified therapist by talking about what has happened to you.

Interestingly outdoor therapy can highlight the unpredictability of what life may throw at you. As you start to notice nature and changing seasons, there can be things that you may come across that might feel symbolic of your own life.

Research has shown that connecting with nature is beneficial for us all.

Outdoor therapy may help you find it easier to talk as you walk or sit side by side with a professionally trained counsellor. For some people it may feel uncomfortable to sit face to face to talk.

You will not be asked to talk about anything you don’t feel ready to talk about. I believe you are the expert about your life and I will accompany you as you begin to say what you hope for from the work. It may be you’re not too sure of your hope, however, you are aware you do want something in your life to feel different.

Being able to have someone professionally trained to listen and enable you to feel accepted and understood whilst at the same time feeling safe is what brings the healing and change that you hope for.

Movement is known to reduce anxiety too, so you may find walking outside is more relaxing.

Outdoor therapy isn’t about the walking or the outside space. You remain the focus and there’s chance to stop, or even sit as you wish.

A counsellor will offer the same listening skills as you talk about your thoughts and feelings outside as they would in the indoor space.

Many of us may miss this present moment due to thoughts of the past or worries about the future. Nature can help us to become aware of what is happening in the now moment.

Would you like to learn how to notice your natural surroundings and reap the therapeutic benefit?

Outdoor therapy means you are surrounded by the beauty of the countryside, it may help to bring relaxation and you may find it easier to talk outside in a more natural setting.

It is very easy to rush through life and lack awareness of what is right in front of you if it isn’t natural for you to notice a different sky or listen to different sounds. Have you ever stopped to gaze upon a droplet of water held on the leaf of a plant in the garden?  It is surprising what beauty can be found in an outdoor space.

Nature brings its own therapy as we stop and take time to look. We can use all our senses outside to appreciate what there is to see, hear, feel, touch and even occasionally taste.

I am able to offer sessions in an outdoor space to enable you to feel really heard, valued and accepted. You may also learn new ways of appreciating your world.

We can walk and talk or you may prefer to sit and admire the view somewhere.

Whether we work together indoors or out, my focus will be on helping you begin to live your life the way you would like it to be. To overcome feelings of not being enough and to learn to embrace who you are and celebrate your uniqueness.
